the pumpkin saga
The drama that unfolds like some badly written soap opera, the lone child abandoned by her father at a foreign train station, the missing mother found dead, the father hiding in another foreign country, the sister who weepingly professed a similar experience years ago......

And as more dirt is dug up, it seems the only one worthy of any sympathy in this entire mess remains to be that innocent, pouting 3-year-old who looked around in confusion as concerned passersby and policemen crowded around her.

Xue had a history of violence against his wife.

His wife's blog suggests a passing affair with a married man, a man who has a child less than a year younger than little Pumpkin.

He is a husband with a wife, and has a little daughter two years of age...He was lonely and I was alone, dried wood met with roaring fire, and what must happen had happened. Lived nearly two happy months together as a family. I found myself falling deeply for this slightly naughty and yet very loveable fellow...A week before his wife returned...I drove away from our little house of love, escaped from a city that belongs to him.

As for the sister, aside from being accused of trying to claim PR costs from the trust set up in Pumpkin's name, she seems to have a personal history of dubious dealings.

A post on a NZ Chinese forum dated 5th September 2006 had said this about a certain "Grace Xue" -

Let me describe my experience first. Last year after graduating from university I got a job at a toy shop (the toy shop name was Toypal, the boss was Grace, her Chinese name Xue Jiao, and her husband Chen Zhan). At the time they wanted me to pay $6000 as deposit, but instead of money I used my husband's car as bond instead, a '98 model RVR.

After I worked for about 8 months, I asked my boss about immigrating, and hoped she would help out. She did not reply immediately, saying that she would think about it. Since then she became very weird, and slowly removed the stock and keys stored in my home, saying that she needed to swap the stock. She also took away $2000, and the final time she took away all the stock in my hands. Then she and her boyfriend played missing, they would not pick up the phone, there was no one at their house, and they did not pay me my salary.

A few days later I received a letter from her, saying that they had stopped employing me since 9th May, and demanded that I give the car I had used as bond to them. When I saw the letter I realised that they had started planning as soon as we mentioned immigrating, first lying to us that they needed to borrow money to buy stock, and then took all the stock from me, then tried to swindle us of our car and two months worth of pay.

At the same time, Grace sent a fax to the immigration department, telling them that I had long since been unemployed by their company, asking them to cancel my visa. Later, the immigration department sent a letter to me, asking me to explain and telling me I had 21 days before being deported. ......Later a friend from the tax office told me that her financial records had always had problems, all her toys were cash income, she's always telling the tax office people that either she lost her money or she lost her stock...

Later, when I didn't give my car to them, they went to the police and tried to get the police to take it off me, but the police rang me, so I said that we used the car as bond. After checking they found that the previous owner of the car was indeed my husband, and then they told the police that they had bought the car from me using cash. In the end the police decided that...we should work it out at court...

One year later, after this whole thing came to light, the same poster points out that this Grace Xue earns a substantial amount from her business dealings and her property investments. She should have no problems supporting Pumpkin on her own, and there really is very little need of a public trust. Similarly, if the grandmother takes custody, the grandmother reportedly also has considerable wealth and Pumpkin will have no need of the trust funds either way.

Probably because of nationality issues, a lot of people want Pumpkin to end up in her sister's custody. But if the above stories were true, one wonders if the father may have unintentionally made a prudent decision. Perhaps it's in the best interest of the child to stay as far away from the Xue side of the family as possible.

On the other hand, I believe the whole "like father, like child" thing is complete bull. She doesn't "get it" from her father. She's the one who chooses to act like a scumbag.

Were you aware of Grace Xue from the media before you saw this article? Can I ask for your opinion of her before and after please?

Thank you

Which article are you referring to? The claiming of PR cost one, or the forum post?

Previous mentions of Grace Xue in Australian media referred mainly to her confessions of being abandoned by her father. Though she first offered to take care of Qianxun, she relinquished a fight for custody when it came to light that Qianxun had a grandmother whom the girl knew well. This was admirable, as it minimised the distress to a family already battered by tragedy, and her statements to the media suggested she had the child's best interests at heart.

The PR costs issue was never actually reported in Australia. It was brought up by the PR rep himself, as I recall, that it was on agreement between himself and Grace that the money for his costs would be obtained from the trust. This casts a less glorious light on Grace's intentions, and because managing money is such a sensitive issue, the motivation to set up a trust does seem more dubious.

As for the forum post, there's no confirmation that the Grace Xue in question is even the same person. Besides, things on internet forums are never all that trustworthy. It's worth noting that such a post exists, but there's no way to verify the extent of truth in the mentioned events.

This case reminds me of those Chinese drama on TVB or any other Chinese TV where the family's problems are really complicated and a mystery is to be unraveled.

It's ridiculous that the perpetrator of the death of Pumpkin's mother threw the body into the car outside the home. Have they found the father yet?

TBH i think the story is a little too full-blown, ok after the mother is found dead the thing got serious but i am pretty sure children are abandoned as is. What made this case so special? (not saying it should happen ofcourse)

or like what the other poster said....might have watched one tvb series too many... They are always going on about adoptive siblings fighting each other to inherit the will. how the real son dosnt work hard..and the adopted ones turns out to be a real son after all and to be the product of an affair between the father and his best friend/brothers wife...yada yada.

Anyway LL, check out Kurosagi!!!
some dorama about this *cheater hunter* who cheats the cheaters..

ahuh...i thought it was like liar game but a little different.
not an A grade recommendation...but its not like you usually like my recommendations anyway :P

Dude.....Kurosagi is soooooo last year =P (Or was it the year before?)

God, never thought I'd get a Yamapi drama recommended by you.

Yeah, I watched one episode of it, it was okay but I couldn't be bothered getting the rest. Apparently it really drags in the middle.

I think what really made this case special was the number of countries involved (and how extreme the father was in dumping the child). Not many other cases of child abandonement involves a) a murder in one country, b) a child abandoned in another country, c) the suspect on the run in another country, and d) all parties involved are from yet another country.

In other words, it's only blown up to bits because all three country's media jumped on it. Of course, because the people involved were Chinese, it's a huge news for the Chinese media in all three countries as well.

whats yamapi??? :S
Well I liked the 2 female leads...one from NANA and one from the finale of one missed call =.=

Watched till ep 4 and i thought the story got MORE interesting? And yes it was last year but man I never knew you were so *updated* I stand corrected ma'am.

re: pumpkin
Well...I was referring to the media hype before all the missing mother business, and I assumed that they didnt know how and why and where the child was from/abandoned by. I guess they got a pretty good idea right at the start that 3 countries were involved i guess.

Maybe the media hype was encouraged by the police to help them find the mother of the child? Because they knew the mother was missing for a few days, but they didn't know she was dead. Also the kid spent two days not talking, so it's almost a "public appeal for information".

.....Yamapi's the nickname of the male lead. He's really popular......with girls ==; Can't really see the appeal myself.

Who's from NANA? I know Horikita Maki was in Nobuta wo Produce and in Hanazakari Kimi no Tachi e (neither of which I recommend to a guy). Are you confusing her with Miyazaki Aoi, who's one of the two Nana's?

You've watched NANA? =______= Even I (a girl + manga fan) couldn't sit through that thing ==;;;;

I do like Yuna Ito's singing though.

Yui Ichikawa is Nana Komatsu from NANA 2 (lol) and is the female support in Kurosagi.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1368557/

I watched the 2nd half of NANA (i think nana 1) I had no idea wth the movie was about, but the singing towards the end were great.

And oh....Yamapi is cool and still look pretty normal???...if you can use the word normal on japanese guys :P
